To learn a language different from owr mother tongue language, we must take into account some important factors:

For example : A language is widely connected with the culture in which it is spoken ; the language, carries in itself essential elements connected with that nation’s or peoples’s history, with their past customs and above all, their actual “habitus”. The language, characteristic from a group or country, is the vehicle through which people’s thoughts turn into words, becoming alive for others by transmitting thoughts, messages, “ meta-messages “ , which will be decoded by the receptor, precisely with his own common cultural parameters.

For many people, of course, it is indispensable for the acquisition of a correct learning of a language, to live and learn , “within” that culture. Sharing the everyday live activities, such as buying, selling, asking for help and going around in the streets, are  only a few examples of the experiences one can share within a specific community.

What is ideal, of course, is not what it is always possible. Nowadays, thanks to the New Communication Technologies, we can have acces to new ways of sharing and interacting culturally with people from diverse countries and cultures.

There are different methods, each of them is the most successful one, depending on the person’s interests, depending on each person in particular.

 You can hire a teacher to take private lessons weekly, for a specific number of hours.The main disadvantage here is the time that takes place between class and class. If you don’t spend that time with other people who speak the language your are learning, you will lose the possibility of acquiring the chosen language successfully.

 The institutes and universities which offer long-distance courses are another option. Through developed virtual plattforms, teachers as well as students are able to satisfy their needs successfully. In this case, the success of the language procces will depend on the quality of the Virtual Educational Center and on the other hand, on the student himself.

 Particulary on the way he administers his time to study and practise the language to be learn , exercising some kind of self-discipline. For the most disciplined and liberal people, there is the option of getting the language course chosen through self-study packages which include cassettes or CD’s, books and activity books, and self – evaluation sheets. For this case, it is important the assistance of a tutor that the person can reach through e-mail or telephone in order to clear out doubts and discuss his concerns.

Variant and interactions betwen these methodologists also exist; still , the most important thing is the quality of the institution and the human resources that compose it. Therefore, it is always convenient to ask for references to current students who are attending or have attended the institution you would like to attend to, to find out about the institution’s fame and trayectory is essential at the time of trusting and investing our time, money and expectations.

 In the end, it’s you who will realize, according to your possibilities and results, which is the method or the combination of methods wich benefits you most.

 In regards to the reason to choose whether to learn one or more languages, I allow myself to quote the following paragraphs taken from the European Commission:

“  Why learn languages?

Language learning is something that everyone can do - and do it throughout their lifetime - you're never too old or too young to learn a language!

• In many countries it is quite normal for most people to be able to use three languages. In the European Union, such people are well placed to take full advantage of European citizenship and of the single market. They are better able to move between countries for educational, professional or other reasons. Their linguistic skills are attractive to employers.

• The European Commission wants everybody in the Union to share these benefits. In its 1995 White Paper “Teaching and Learning: towards the learning society”, it set the objective of all EU citizens being proficient in three European languages: their mother tongue plus two more.

Your reasons for learning

This is an important question: why do you want to learn? And what do you want to learn?

If you have a clear reason for learning a language, you will be more motivated to succeed. 

Maybe you want to be able to understand local people when you go on holiday abroad, or maybe your job brings you in contact with people from other countries, or maybe you just want to be able to make friends with people from other backgrounds than your own. These are all good reasons for learning a foreign language! But don't forget that there are plenty of other reasons too:

• More and more companies are investing in staff training in foreign languages, or are looking to recruit people with language skills. It needn't just be the top level staff who learn - shop floor workers can also be involved. Language learning can improve your career prospects. 

• Learning a language can increase your self-confidence and help you speak more clearly - so it can help you express yourself better in your own language as well. 

• Speaking someone else's language helps you to understand that person's culture and their outlook on life: the more people who do this, the more we can break down the barriers that divide people.

Whatever your situation, if you are aware of your reasons for learning a language and you remind yourself of them during your studies you will be more focused on your objectives and be able to keep up your learning momentum.  “

The Spanish language is progressively becoming one of the most studied languages in the United States study centers . Besides, many American students who attend educational institutions in other parts of the world, choose hispanic ones. The globalization is, among others one of the factores which favors this tendency. There is a need to interactt with the Spanish-speaking countries, especially  on the commercial field. Another aspect wich favors the tendency of studying Spansh instead of studiying other languages, such as the oriental ones, is that both English and Spanish have the same alphabet. This factor brings the two languages close to one another and makes it easier for the English-Speaking people to learn Spanish.

On top of that, the fact that United States is geographically close to Mexico and the rest of Latin America,makes it convenient for the American people to learn Spanish, according to various surveys done during the las years.
